A team of six comprising of FIDA, UWONET secretariat, Akina Mama Wa Africa dialogued with Hon.Ruhindi the minster of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.The meeting was called to follow up on the promises made in March just before the commemoration of International Women's day. The promises included tabling of the family laws in cabinet and parliament.
Outcomes of the meeting
- The minister informed the meeting that the marriage and divorce bill and the Domestic violence bill will be brought before parliament in a month's time
- He also informed the team that the Sexual Offences Bill was not presented to Cabinet and thus won't be among the bills to be tabled in parliament.
- The minister feigned ignorance on the Maputo protocol and promised to consult widely with his technical officers. He asked the team to send him updated information on the protocol .Akina Mama Wa Afrika was charged with preparing a write-up on the protocol for the minister and a follow up meeting will be organized.
- The minister welcomed continuous dialogue between his ministry and Civil Society Organisations
