Uganda Women’s Network, on behalf of the women of Uganda condemns in the most profound way the gruesome murder of Agnes Nakadama, 25, allegedly by her husband Muhammed Kasule, 52 which occurred in Nkatu zone in Iganga Municipality.
Agnes’ body was found lying naked on the floor of their home and she had been hacked with a sharp object in the abdomen exposing her intestines. The body of her husband was also found hanging in the house.
Today we call on all Ugandans to say ‘Enough is Enough’. The women of Uganda take the position that any attack on any woman is an attack to the all the women and mothers of Uganda. We condemn the social tolerance towards Gender Based Violence (GBV) in our communities and demand justice for not only Agnes but several other women who are suffering in silence because they fear to report to the relevant authorities, or are unable to receive the necessary help.
Uganda Women’s Network calls upon all its partners for increased vigilance against all forms of Gender Based Violence. We commend the duty bearers who have taken a stand against GBV in Busoga region. We also call on government to show leadership and take up its primary role of protecting its citizens and strengthening the struggle to combat GBV in all its forms.
