Information Managment

UWONET recognizes that information is critical and forms the basis of effective lobby and advocacy as well as Networking. UWONET also appreciates the need to collect, package and disseminate information as a way of linking up with various stakeholders. Through information management (i.e. generation, analysis and dissemination), UWONET hopes to enhance people's appreciation and understanding of the concept of gender and its relevance to development. It is also hoped that once this information is shared, more men and women will participate in UWONET's advocacy activities as well as increase their involvement in policy development. Strategic Objective: To develop a databank of information which will to be useful in advocacy and enrich membership, women and other development partners in knowledge on women's issues. UWONET will focus on:

1. Promoting information sharing among UWONET membership, within the women's movement and with other development partners especially taking cognisance of modern ICT methods such as Internet and e-mail.

2. Information collection will be at the heart of all activities of the Network through an elaborate system of monitoring and evaluation, with an emphasis on documenting women's experiences as a means of promoting reflective learning for more effective advocacy. The key activities under this programme will include the following:

Activity 1: Redesign and Maintenance of the UWONET Website UWONET wishes to strengthen its understanding and use of IT through the redesigning and maintenance of the UWONET website so that it can readily provide up-to-date information on women's issues. It is also planned that the professional directory of professional women will be updated regularly and availed on-line. This directory provides useful information on the skills and expertise of Ugandan women especially where women are less visible so as to increase the number, visibility and presence of women in power and decision-making.

Activity 2: Production and Dissemination of Information UWONET will produce different kinds of information in form of brochures, bi-monthly bulletin, quarterly newsletter, annual report and policy briefing papers on different advocacy issues. The bi-monthly bulletin, circulated to members and allies will give an update of progress of activities. The quarterly newsletter will be based on articles submitted by the members aimed at giving the member's work visibility as well as highlighting issues of critical concern while the annual report shall be aimed at summarizing the activities of a particular year.
All these publications are intended to increase people's awareness of the Network, enhance participation in its activities as well as acting as an information base for various stakeholders.

Activity 3: Expansion and Computerization of the UWONET Resource Center. Since its formation, UWONET's greatest strength has been information sharing among different stakeholders on priority issues of concern to women. One of the most basic challenges that the Secretariat is facing at the moment is lack of an information management system. UWONET intends to create an inventory about information

Activity 4: Documenting best practices in networking As a networking mechanism for the women's movement, UWONET will document best practices in networking that will provide a historical record to facilitate advocacy on issues of critical concern to women. The documentation will also enhance action learning and inform various stakeholders on how best to network. Activity 5: Documenting Women's Health Rights As part of enhancing people's understanding and appreciation of women's health rights, UWONET will document issues pertinent to women's health in Uganda.

This will be done through a documentary and researches that will be used to establish the state of women's health. The documentation will feed into UWONET's health rights advocacy initiatives.
