Who We Are
About UWONET
Uganda Womenu2019s Network (UWONET) is a womenu2019s rights advocacy organization that exists to coordinate collective action among womenu2019s rights and gender equality stakeholders for the attainment of gender equality and equity in Uganda.
UWONET was born out of the East African Womenu2019s Conference held in Kampala in 1993 in preparation for the UN World Conference on Women in Beijing, China in 1995.
UWONETu2019s membership currently is comprised of 23 national womenu2019s organizations and 9 individuals. UWONET is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) with a secretariat in Kampala-Uganda. UWONETu2019 envisions a Ugandan society free from gender discrimination and her mission is to transform unequal gender relations through collective visioning and action.

Our Core Values
In order to effectively undertake her mission, the following are the core values UWONET adopted for her strategic direction:
Unity in Diversity
We acknowledge respect and celebrate diversity in the Womenu2019s Movement and strive to achieve unity amongst women and organizations and with like-minded actors.
Womenu2019s Dignity
We recognize, respect, promote and protect womenu2019s inherent sense of self-worth and self-respect.
Justice
We uphold the principle of fairness in our operations and relations, and we are opposed to discrimination.
Equality
In pursuing our endeavour, we treat men and women equally, without gender discrimination and we strive for the elimination of all forms of unequal relations.
Accountability
We hold ourselves accountable to go to the highest level of ethical behaviour and responsibility in our actions, while mindful of integrity in our performance.
What We Believe in
We believe that transforming gender and power relations, and the structures, norms and values that reinforce them, is critical to ending poverty and challenging inequality.
UWONET believes that gender inequality and the marginalisation of the needs, roles and potential of women and girls are key factors limiting advances in sustainable development outcomes for all.
We further believe that women taking control and taking collective action are the key drivers of sustained improvements in womenu2019s rights. UWONET works with all regardless of education, social status, gender and political affiliations and are a powerful force to sustainable development not only for women and girls, but for all. UWONETu2019s strength is hinged on the diversity of expertise and experience of her membership and allies working jointly towards a Ugandan society free of gender discrimination.
