Incidences of Gender Based Violence in Uganda remain high despite a strong legal and policy framework to address the problem. Uganda is also a signatory and ratified a number of international human rights treaties which expressly prohibit sexual and gender–based violence.

According to the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (2011), 63% of the women in Uganda had experienced physical or sexual violence or both in their lives. The study findings further indicated that Gender Based Violence ranked highest in Busoga sub–region compared to any other region in Uganda
